Growing In Faith Together
March 20, 2016
Today’s Texts:
Zechariah 9:9-10
Philippians 2:5-11
Luke 19:28-40
Gathered by Grace
When we read the account of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, it is not that we are propelled back in time, but rather that today Jesus enters our city, our assembly, our lives, and we laud him as king (Worship Guidebook for Lent and the Three Days, Augsburg Fortress, 2009).
Discuss in your household or small group:
* How would you react to seeing a world leader on a donkey? What does Jesus’ choice of animal mean to you?
* If Jesus were to ride into your town today, what would be his means of transportation? What signs and symbols would speak today?
* How do you “let the same mind that was in Christ” be in you? What does that look like in your life?
Daily Bible Readings
These readings are related to the Sunday readings. M-W reflect upon the past Sunday’s readings and Th-Sa prepare for the next Sunday. Try to take time each day to read the assigned Bible passage.
NEXT SUNDAY: Isaiah 66:17-25; Acts 10:34-43; Psalm 118:1-2, 14-24; Luke 24:1-12
Prayers for this Week
For the Week: What wondrous love is this, O my soul.
Throughout the Day: Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us.
A Blessing to Share: Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.
For mealtime say responsively: Let every tongue confess: Jesus Christ is Lord.
Lenten Mealtime Prayer:
For further reflection
Devotional Practice
If we skip from Palm Sunday to Easter, without stopping to ponder the cross then we will have misunderstood the whole thing. Take some time each day during the coming week to reflect on the story of Jesus’ passion. You can find daily readings on the flip side of this insert. We also will post them on the website and on Facebook each day with a reflection question or two. You could even share your thoughts and prayers either place (note the comment section for the website is way down past “related posts”).
Ritual for Holy Week
Attend services on Maundy Thursday (12:10 pm & 7:00 pm) and Good Friday (12:10pm & 7:00 pm) and join the Vigil on Saturday (family friendly; 4:00pm)
Scattered to serve
This week spend some quality time with someone who is lonely.
We will have a mini-post with a verse from the story of Holy week and a reflection question each day here on our website.
