From Summer Gaasedelen..
Those bearing palms and praising Jesus thought he was coming to be their earthly, powerful king. Like David. He wasn't. I mourn that fallen expectation.
But not exactly. They wanted Jesus to be a powerful king for the Jews, and I am not a Jew. That Jesus would come for all people of all times and places means that I am included in the salvation he brought.
Yet I mourn the exploitation and oppression that still exists. I mourn that Jesus didn't fix this temporal world. I'm not sure that I can understand any better, 2000 years later, why he came.
As I wave palms and sing Hosanna in the highest, who do I think I am welcoming? What do I expect of him?
