Read Psalm 107:1-3
O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;
for his steadfast love endures forever.
Let the redeemed of the LORD say so,
those he redeemed from trouble
and gathered in from the lands,
from the east and from the west,
from the north and from the south.
Do you go around the table at Thanksgiving and have each person say something about which they give thanks? In this Psalm, the person is thanking God for wonderful things that God has done for his/her community.
The word redeemed means things like rescued, saved, restored, or freed.
Many were lost, or sad, or trapped, or sick, and God redeemed them.
And God continues to redeem those who are lost or sad or trapped or sick - which really could be any of us, couldn’t it?
For what to you thank God this very minute?
Think of a time when God redeemed (rescued, saved, restored, or freed) and share how that felt.
