Way of Sorrows in Jerusalem |
Read:
Luke 23:26-31
An unknown on the road, Simon of Cyrene, provides a concrete illustration of the role of disciple by taking up the cross and following Jesus. On that road to his crucifixion, Jesus takes time to once again mourn Jerusalem. There will be no end to violence and suffering for this city used by the powerful to increase their own power and to oppress by distorting justice.
Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and your children.
+ Where do you see violence and suffering in the world today because the powerful manipulate situations to maintain power? Where do you see justice distorted?
+ For what do you grieve in these stories of Jesus' passion?
